Editing in Avid

So I've been editing Jenny's brother's wedding and I tried to explain to her how I was editing from multiple cameras and still able to match up all the audio/video. This pictures explains better than I can how I layer my workspace.

The left screen is audio and video as if it were film strips laid out on a table - dark blue to light blue are video layers, and green through red are audio layers. The screen on the right shows my three camera angles to work from, and the bins below are all of my other clips (SFX, tools, music, cutaways, etc.). I "peel" away the top layer of video (darker blue) to "reveal" the lower layers of video (lighter blue).

Glenn Beck Raped and Murdered a Girl in 1990, allegedly

I recently heard rumors that Glenn Beck raped and murdered a girl in 1990, rumors he has not denied, from this website http://glennbeckrapedandmurderedayounggirlin1990.com/

Now, I'm not normally one for conspiracy theories, but Glenn Beck hasn't provided any evidence that he has not raped and murdered a girl in 1990. That in itself is suspicious.

So I did a little digging around on my harddrive looking for some evidence for OR against Glenn Beck who may or may not have raped that poor defenseless girl way back in 1990, and what did I find?

This shocking image.

Why I had this gruesome image on my harddrive is beyond me. But I dare anyone to prove this damaging evidence that proves Glenn Beck raped and murdered a girl back in 1990 wasn't photoshoped. Crudely.

The burden of proof is now in Glenn Beck's bloody, bloody hands.

Bend Film Festival 2009

As I write this, "Master of His Domain" is screening at the Festroia Film Festival in Portugal, but I also just got word that the film has been selected at the "Bend Film Festival" in Oregon, much closer to home and some of the world's greatest climbing. Wish I could go...

Climbing in Malaysia

I met up with my friend Dan from Seattle this last week and we headed out to Malaysia to climb some limestone. Most of these pictures were taken by Dan Holz, and you can see his other stuff here: http://www.danholzphotography.com/

There are probably more varied pictures, but I haven't got them from Marc yet.

Eric leading, Lisa belays

Marc climbs for his first time outdoors - I think we may have spoiled him; these climbs were beautiful!

Chalk is a necessity when climbing near the equator.

Checking out the routes.

I love Malaysians (the sign has a picture of Bush and simply says "asshole"). There is also a dead squirrel in the foreground. Awesome.

Alexandria - Screening at the Salt Lake City International Film Festival & Seattle One Reel Film Festival

August 14th, 15th and 16th "Alexandria" will be screening with only 12 other short films at the Salt Lake City International Film Festival in Utah. Tickets go on sale July 18th for all my friends out in Salt Lake City!

And don't forget for all my friends in Seattle, checkout the bumbershoot website for tickets to my film screening at the Seattle One Reel Film Festival September 5th, 6th and 7th. I believe you can start getting tickets for that now, though I'm not sure. I won't be at that screening unfortunately. I'll be on the opposite side of the world madly searching for a new apartment.

And for those of you who haven't seen it - here is the trailer to the film I made last year which will be screening:

Alexandria Trailer from Eric Elofson on Vimeo.

In the distant future, a bottle is found deep inside the rainforests of Southeast Asia. Its contents unlock the secret of what happened to three men in a bookstore at the end of civilization, and their attempt to live on.

My Brother Alex Saves My Life - Again...

Alex is notorious in my family for saving my life. And I am notorious for dragging him into life threatening situations. By my count, he has saved my life directly at least 3 times, perhaps 4, and indirectly saved it a good 10 times more.

So it was no surprise to me last week while we were stomping around in a cave on a hike outside of Palm Springs when Alex yelled, "Eric run!"

"From what!? Where to!? How fast?!" Ran through my head as I slowly walked out of the cave. I didn't need to ask him these questions however, because this is the guy who saved my life from a grizzly bear attack, another rattle snake attack, and at least one lethal fall from a cliff in New Zealand.

Turns out I almost stepped on a western diamondback rattle snake (my best guess) while admiring the cave walls.

Here she is - beatty little eyes and all. This is the third snake I've almost stepped on... good thing I don't wear sandals anymore.

Alexandria - Official Selection at the 1 Reel Film Festival, Seattle

It's going to start getting confusing now, as I have two films on the film festival circuit in wildly different genres; both of which are being staggered at different festivals based off of "premiere status" and what not. So though some festivals I've submited both "Alexandria" and "Master of His Domain," - some festivals only one or the other.

So, point is, "Alexandria" just got accepted at the 1 Reel Film Festival in Seattle as part of the Bumbershoot Arts Festival. "Master of His Domain" won't get a chance to screen out there until next year (assuming I get it in).

So all you bums in Seattle better show up and watch my movie. Or else.

As always - here is the trailer.

Climbing trip to Joshua Tree

Jenny, Basil and I took a one day side trip to Joshua Tree for some climbing while we were at the Palm Springs Shortfest Film Festival.

Master of His Domain on IMDB

Hey everybody, you can checkout "Master of His Domain" on IMDB, not that it has anything you don't already know about the film...

And for some reason it hasn't been added all at once - cast and crew are not fully credited yet, and what information gets updated seems to be arbitrary. Oh well.
